The hardest part of recovery is showing up every day.
Especially on the days no one else is checking in. Formal help keeps business hours. Recovery does not. The Recovery Companion gives you a structure to follow, in your pocket, on the schedule you actually have.
What the app does
A day you can actually follow
Not a feed to scroll. A short, ordered set of things to do each day, the same rhythm every day, so the habit carries you on the days willpower does not.
A 120-day guided practice
A day-by-day program with a morning intention and an evening reflection, built as a secular parallel to the twelve steps.
Lessons that explain it
Short daily lessons on alcohol, the brain, anger, grief, relationships, and money, with written questions you answer yourself.
Something for the hard hour
A craving at 3 a.m., a payday, a fight, the drive past an old spot. Open the toolkit and there is a script for the exact moment you are in.
Real help, one tap away
The Veterans Crisis Line, 988, and SAMHSA's treatment locator are always a single tap from any screen, any hour.
What is inside
Written for this, not licensed from somewhere else
Every reading, lesson, and script in the app was written for Healing Nations Foundation. Nothing here is a repackaged workbook.
Days of guided practice
An intention each morning and a written reflection each night, arranged in themed blocks.
Education lessons
Across 24 subject areas, from addiction and the brain to anger, grief, and rebuilding trust.
Daily meditations
A thought and a meditation for every day of the year, so the practice keeps going after day 120.
Crisis scripts
Step-by-step responses for the specific moments that put recovery at risk.
The Recovery Companion is a wellness and peer-support tool. It does not diagnose or treat, and it is not a substitute for professional care or a crisis line.
For courts, probation, and recovery programs
Accountability the court can rely on, evidence the participant earns.
Alongside the free companion there is paid reporting, for people whose court, probation officer, or recovery program requires a record of their work. Every completed step is written to an append-only log with a server timestamp, and it comes out as a compliance and effort report a supervising officer can receive.
The same report gives the participant something a paper file never did: a dated, quantified record of the work they put in, which they or their attorney can put in front of a court.
See what courts and programs get →Where this stands: the participant app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and Android is coming soon. The monitor portal and the compliance and effort report are built, including two-factor sign-in, a caseload view, an audit log, and export to PDF and CSV. No court or county is using them yet, and the first partners will shape them. Supervision decisions are always the court’s; a record supports a request, it does not produce an outcome.
What reporting gives a supervising officer
- Daily completion by station, with server-side timestamps rather than the phone's clock
- A compliance and effort summary over any date range, as PDF or CSV
- Meeting cards signed on the phone by the chair, with Check in and Check out times, clearly marked self-reported
- Community service: module work with every written answer, and service hours confirmed on the same signed card
- If the program turns it on, the phone's location at Check in and Check out on a meeting card, and never in between
- Completion records, never journal text, so participants keep their privacy
- One authorized make-up day per month, logged as a make-up, never as a same-day completion
Always free for those who served.
The Recovery Companion is, and will remain, free for every veteran, active duty service member, National Guard and Reserve member, and first responder. Cost will never be the reason someone goes without support.
The one paid part is program reporting, for people whose court or program requires a record. It runs on a 180-day reporting license paid by the participant, a sponsor, or the program, and court-ordered veterans and first responders can ask to have the fee waived. Reporting fees go back into keeping the companion free.
